Richard “Dick” Dean Jones, 87, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dick was born on June 15, 1939, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Carl Harrison and Berniece Norrine (Wilcox) Jones.
Dick grew up in Stillwater and graduated from Stillwater High School with the Class of 1957, where he distinguished himself as an outstanding athlete and earned All-State honors in football. Following high school, Dick continued his education at Oklahoma State University before pursuing his law degree. He earned his Juris Doctor in 1961 and completed his legal education at the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1964.
Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, including service in Cambodia. His military service was an important part of his life and reflected his commitment to serving something greater than himself.
Dick went on to build a successful career as a business and tax attorney. He was known for his intelligence, strong work ethic, and straightforward approach. He believed in doing things the right way and was very much a black-and-white thinker. From 1994 until his retirement in 2011, he practiced law with Johnson and Jones Law Office. Throughout his career, Dick earned the respect of colleagues and those who had the opportunity to work alongside him.
Throughout the years, Dick was involved in several organizations and community activities, including Cappa Gamma, Kiwanis, and the Oak Country Club in Tulsa, where he was a longtime member. He also attended Boston Avenue Methodist Church and Saint Mary’s Parish in Tulsa over the years.
Outside of his professional life, Dick had a lifelong passion for sports, especially golf. Whether he was out on the golf course or watching a tournament on television, he thoroughly enjoyed the game. He also loved football and basketball and remained a devoted fan of the Oklahoma State Cowboys. His love of football began during his own high school playing days. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed following his favorite team.
Dick was an enthusiastic reader who enjoyed reading just about anything he could get his hands on. He especially enjoyed the novels of John Grisham. His intelligence and curiosity kept him interested in the world around him, and he never lost his appreciation for learning.
Dick is survived by his brother: Bill Jones of St. Louis, Missouri; his five nieces: Lydia Taylor and her husband Kent, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Valerie Williams of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Donna Ebert and her husband Bob, of Jackson, Tennessee, Kathy Boyd and her husband Jim, of St. Louis, Missouri, and Cheryl Jones and her husband Jim, of Chesterfield, Missouri; his nephew: Michael Jones and his wife Jennifer, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 1 sister-in-law: Marthanelle Jones; and his very special loved ones: Randy and Lisa Shorb of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kelsey Gotcher of Edmond, Oklahoma, Matthew Shorb of San Angelo, Texas, Taylor Shorb of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Mackenzie Cleveland of Franklin, Tennessee. He is also survived by numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, colleagues, and friends.
