Robert Dwight Clark, 79, died peacefully at home in Stillwater on Sunday, November 19, 2023, after a short illness. Friends and family will gather to remember Bob on Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 2 - 4:30 p.m. at Smokin' Joe's Stilly. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Bob was born in El Dorado, Illinois on December 6, 1943, to Kenneth and Vada Clark. He and his older brother Kenny were close in age, and his little sister Lynn Dee came along 13 years later. The family moved to Stillwater when Bob was a young teen, and he was a member of the Stillwater High School Class of '61, the first class to graduate from the current facility, then known as C. E. Donart High School.
Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1967, stationed in Verdun, France. His years in France resulted in lifelong friendships and a love of travel. Bob then followed his father's vocation by working in the oil industry as a driller, on the East Coast and in Oklahoma. He also worked as a pressman for the Stillwater News Press, and later as a corrections officer.
Bob said he got lucky in love when he met Barbara Bremer 50 years ago, and their friends all agreed. Bob and Barbara enjoyed traveling together, spending time at their Illinois River Ranch property and attending the Walnut Valley Festival every year with their group of friends from Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri.
Bob was a man of many talents and interests, from golf, fishing, and skiing to gardening, bird watching, and tinkering. He was a dedicated Democrat and OSU fan, with spirited opinions about both. Bob bet big on life, and in the end, he came out well ahead.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and sister. His remaining family includes his wife Barbara Bremer, sister-in-law Joyce Clark, brother-in-law Bill Bremer (Holly Hartman), nephews Steve Clark, Cameron Bremer, Skyler Bremer, Zack Schatz, and niece, Amber Schatz, along with several great-nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Life Adult Day Center at the First Christian Church, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
