Obituary

Robert "Bob" Alan VanDeventer, 77, died peacefully at his home in Stillwater on 19 August 2024. A celebration of his life will be 11:00 a.m. August 30, 2024 at Crosspointe Church, 1807 N. Jardot, Stillwater, Oklahoma 74075. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert was born 20 May 1947 to Earl and Ruth (McClure) VanDeventer in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He graduated from Stillwater High School in 1965 and went on to complete his Certified Public Accountant accreditation. He served the community of Stillwater as a CPA for 30 years. Bob held a few other professions over the years in between accounting projects, he served as a Stillwater Police Officer, Automobile Mechanic, and Grocery Store Owner, to name a few.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruth; and his older brother Jim on 21 April 2006.

In 1973, Bob met Carolyn Cross and the two were married on 14 December 1973. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They had six children, 17 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Bob was a man who put his heart and soul into everything he did. He had a contagious laughter and was a great storyteller. Some of Bob's favorite times were gathering with the family to share a meal, working on cars, fishing, bicycling around town, and serving on the security team at his church-Center Church. He enjoyed early morning fishing trips, driving fast cars, and spending time with his many grandchildren. He had a brilliant mind and enjoyed reading books of all kinds. He was a family historian and kept incredible journals and notes documenting many family events and details throughout the years.

Bob was a kind and generous man and did many things around the community to help friends and family in need. He and Carolyn have had a great life together raising their children, Missy Schupp and her husband, Craig and their two children Amanda and Bradley; Rick VanDeventer and his five children Jason, Sean, Joshua, Logan, and Ryker; Jim VanDeventer and his three children Corbin, Jaiden, and Lily; Angela Simon and husband, Matt and their two children Sami and Zeke; Adam VanDeventer and wife Lori and their two children Kyle and Natalie; and Marc VanDeventer and his wife Vanessa and their three children Collin, Layla, and Hendrix; as well as nine great grandchildren. He was dearly loved and will be missed by friends and family.
