Obituary

Ronald Dean Compton, 78, passed away peacefully in his home with family by his side on August 12, 2025 after a brief illness with cancer. A memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2025 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Ron was born March 28, 1947 to Robert and Wava (Calkins) Compton in Stillwater, where he was raised with his five siblings; Sherrill, Robert Roy Jr. "Bob Roy," Carol Ann, Ernest "Keith," and Teresa.

He met and married the love of his life, Linda Decker, in the summer after graduating from Stillwater High School. Married for 48 years, they raised three children: Lisa Compton Stilts, Larry Compton and Kevin Compton.

Ron loved his work as a store manager at the Quik-Trip Corporation where he worked from 1968 until retiring in 2001. But as he was so social, and enjoyed working with people so much, he then went to work for Kicker Corporation until he retired from there in 2008. Many of his coworkers remained lifelong friends.

Ron loved hunting, fishing, golfing and sports of all kinds, from watching to playing and coaching. He was an award-winning wrestler in high school and never missed the chance to cheer on his children, grandchildren, and all their friends in various sporting activities.

Ron played pool in leagues throughout his life, right up until he started chemo in April of this year. He enjoyed his last birthday singing karaoke with many pool league friends immensely.

Ron treasured his family and was blessed with seven grandchildren: Andrea Stilts-Lofstrom (Kenneth), Callista Stilts, Deondrea Sylvester-Hall (Justin), Dray Sylvester, Kaylee Sylvester (fiancé Corbin), Trace Compton and Cadence Compton. Two great-grandchildren were his most recent blessings: Roman and Ellianna Hall.

Ron was predeceased by both parents, his wife, Linda; his siblings Sherrill, Robert Roy Jr., Carol Ann, and Ernest Keith; and son-in-law, James Stilts.

He is survived by his children, grandchildren and sister, Teresa Tully; sisters-in-law Carole (Robert Roy, Jr.) and Sally (Ernest Keith) Compton; brother-in-law, Steve Tully (Teresa); daughter-in-law, Chrissy (Kevin) Compton and many much-loved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Jeff Kramer, Brooks Turk and Will Green for their continued presence and support and the Karman Legacy Hospice team for their compassionate care during Ron's final days.
