Steven Douglas McCauley, 69, of Stillwater, Oklahoma passed away on September 30, 2024. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2024 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Steven Douglas McCauley was born to Lorene McCauley on December 16, 1954, in Texarkana, Arkansas. His early childhood was spent in Idabel, Oklahoma, with his mother, grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. When he was around 8, he was sent to Paul's Valley State School to be educated. This was the only option available to families and special education students at that time. In spite of being in the institutional setting, Steve made the most of his schooling and grew into a righteous and resilient man.

On November 19, 1984, Steve moved to Stillwater and became one of the first four residents at Stillwater Group Homes' house #2. He began work at MPower, then the Sheltered Workshop for Payne County. He became a long-time member at First United Methodist Church in Stillwater, where he was part of the Faith Class for decades. He attended regularly until his health problems began in recent years.

Steve was at one time employed at Stillwater Design. He was a familiar sight at the 6th Street Braum's where he worked for many years.

He enjoyed puzzle books, game shows, and reading his newspaper. He could always tell you what was new in Stillwater. He was an OSU fan and had season football tickets for years. He liked reading his tattered old King James Bible.

Steve had many friends, including Linda Barnes, who kept in touch with him in all the years since he left Paul's Valley. His Faith class teachers were important to him. He was close with several housemates and staff at Stillwater Group Homes, including Juanita Smith, Janet Lynn, Donna Amrine, Phyllis Taylor, Maxine Judie, Montez Elston, Elizabeth Wolftongue.

Steve McCauley was a great friend, and he will be sorely missed.
