Thomas Glenn Barnett, 89, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at home on August 4, 2026, after a prolonged illness. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026 1:00-6:00 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home, Stillwater, OK. A memorial service will take place on Tuesday August 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.at Sunnybrook Christian Church of Stillwater, with burial to follow at Ft. Gibson National Military Cemetery.

Born on February 2, 1937, in East St. Louis, IL, Tom was the eighth of nine children born to William Clyde and Lillie (Farris) Barnett. He graduated High School in Thebes, IL in 1954 and went into the U.S. Air Force, serving in Saudi Arabia before being honorably discharged in 1958. Upon leaving the Air Force, he took a 2nd shift job at McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis, MO. While working evenings at McDonnell Aircraft, he went to school during the day at SIU-Edwardsville, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering in 1971. He spent the rest of his career working at McDonnell (later McDonnell-Douglas), retiring as a Department Manager after 33 years, at the age of 55.

In 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Sue Anderson. Together they built a life rooted in faith, love, laughter, and community. Four children were born to this union. After retirement, Tom and Sue enjoyed traveling across the U.S., square dancing, fishing, and hunting together. Faith in Jesus Christ and service to the church were central to their lives throughout their marriage of more than 69 years. Tom served as a Deacon and as the missions treasurer while at O'Fallon Christian Church.

Tom was predeceased by his parents and all his siblings, and by son Kevin (Loretta) Barnett and daughter Karen Proffitt. He is survived by his wife Sue of the home, daughter Annetta (Blayne) Mayfield of Stillwater, daughter Kim Barnett of Stillwater, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. No matter where Tom was or his health condition, he always was ready to share the reason for the hope that he had in Jesus Christ, encouraging others to come to faith in Jesus.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Karman Legacy Hospice, who cared deeply for Tom and Sue during his final months.

Tom will be remembered for his deep faith, dry sense of humor, and love for his family and friends, who will miss him.
