It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Violet Hawkins Green, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Violet passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on May 16, 2025, in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Born on April 13, 1936, in her family home in Southern Illinois, Violet was the daughter of Emery and Eva Iola Hawkins. She was one of nine siblings. Violet graduated from Mt. Vernon High School and furthered her education by completing some college at Ozarks Christian College.
For many years, Violet dedicated her time and talents as a church secretary. She was a faithful member of Sunnybrook Christian Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma. In her leisure time, Violet found joy in playing the piano, tending to her garden, and babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Violet was married to Marshall Lewis Green for 20 years and lived in many different countries and states while Lewis was in the military.
She is preceded in death by seven of her siblings and her granddaughter Ashley Kaye Pruitt.
She is survived by her loving children: son Clifford Green and his wife Julie, daughter Melissa Green and her husband Kent, and daughter Barri Tinkler and her husband Alan. Violet will also be dearly missed by her surviving sister, Pheba Smith, as well as her cherished grandchildren: Laney Brassfield, Casey Green, Nathaniel Green, and Josh Russell; and her great-grandchildren: Ryan Brassfield and Johnny Brassfield, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Violet's life will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, Oklahoma, with Paul Weece officiating. Following the service, Violet will be laid to rest in the Donoho Prairie Cemetery in Texico, Illinois.
Violet's kind spirit and loving presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
