Obituary

Glen Wendell Stephens passed peacefully at Baptist Integris Medical Center, Oklahoma City on Sunday, June 15th, 2025, at the age of 88. He was surrounded by his wife of 67 years along with his family as he went home to be with our Savior. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Wendell was born in Santa Fe, Oklahoma on the 5th Day of May, 1937 to Oran and Elvie (Smith) Stephens. He was the youngest of four siblings and was raised in the Velma Assembly of God Church. He attended Velma-Alma Elementary and was a graduate of Velma-Alma High School. After graduation he went on to college where he attended Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma for two years before completing his education at Oklahoma State University with a degree in business.

When Wendell was in the 7th grade he became smitten with a young girl, Miss Donna Sue. From that moment on, she became his girlfriend. On August 31st, 1957, Wendell married his lifelong girlfriend and high school sweetheart Miss Donna Sue McGuire. To that union, they were blessed with three children.

While attending OSU, Wendell fell in love with Stillwater and decided to build a life there. Initially, he started selling Real-estate but transitioned into the insurance field. Shortly thereafter, he decided to branch out on his own and built the Wendell Stephens Agency selling insurance for Shelter with whom he gave 63 years before his retirement in 2023. For many years, Wendell met up with is coffee group and then would set up the "secret club" at noon for a daily hot game of gin rummy in the back room at his office. We believe his card buddies were sworn to secrecy.

Wendell was a very hands-on father, always busy coaching little league baseball, intramural basketball and shuffling his children along with others to their games, tournaments, dance recitals and other events. Once his children had grown, you could find Wendell and Sue on the sidelines cheering for their grandchildren and now their great-grandchildren.

Throughout the years, he was an active member of Kiwanis, JayCees, March of Dimes, Lion's Club, Elks Lodge, Posse Club and the OSU Alumni Association. He was also a man of faith. Wendell and Sue were members of Highland Park Methodist Church and later, Yale United Methodist Church.

To say that Wendell was an avid Oklahoma State fan is an understatement. He was a season ticket holder for football, girls basketball, softball and baseball. He rarely missed a game. Nothing made him happier than attending the games with his family and friends. He was the epitome of a "Loyal and True" Pokes fan! He also loved a good bird hunt with his family and friends who were always up to join him, even on short notice. And, back in the day, Wendell was known to be on a bowling league or two.

Wendell was a good businessman and a loyal Cowboy fan but his wife and family were by far what was most important to him and they all knew it! Wendell's legacy will lovingly go on with his wife Sue Stephens of Stillwater, OK; daughter Kimberly Berg of Choctaw, OK; son Craig (Trish) Stephens of Tulsa, OK; son Scott (Mindy) Stephens of Glenpool, OK; granddaughters Meagan McDaniel of Edmond, OK; Madison (Tylor) Wells of Harrah, OK; Josie Stephens of Edmond, OK; Hattie Stephens of Glenpool, OK; grandsons Mitchell (Brittney) Stephens of Tulsa, OK; Jackson Stephens of Glenpool, OK; 8 great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews along with a host of friends.

Wendell was preceded in death by his parents Oran and Elvie Stephens; in-laws Leonard and Alma McGuire; brothers Weldon Stephens and Wayne Stephens; sister Wynell Rickey; son in-law Lauren Berg and great granddaughter Vivienne Suzanne McDaniel.
