Obituary

Beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend William Forrest Britton passed away on August 3, 2024, at the age of 58. Born on August 25, 1965 to William and Sue Britton. Forrest lived a life marked by dedication to family, friends, and commitment to serving his community. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Stillwater First Christian Church. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Forrest graduated from Stillwater High School in 1983 and continued his schooling to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice Management and Administration, and a Master of Education in Training and Development from the University of Central Oklahoma. He went on to serve much of his career in law enforcement and security, as well as serving as serving as an instructor. He was a hard worker; not only did he have a full-time private security job, but he also drove for Uber.

As busy as he was, he always made time for Addy. He looked forward to weekly pizza and movie nights, catching the latest release at the theater, and challenging her to tennis matches. He learned to love traveling to Disney with her, and any travel time in the car was punctuated with 80's music played at full volume, and car dancing. If you spoke with Forrest for more than a minute or so, he would be sure to boast of Addy's latest accomplishments. When she beat him in tennis (and he was always competitive and wanted to win), Forrest was delighted. He would express endless amazement also that his daughter was on the robotics team! He always tried to encourage Addy to explore and do what activities brought her joy.

Known for his honesty and straightforward nature, Forrest always had a story to tell and was ever ready to lend a helping hand. He was an avid sports fan, especially OSU baseball and football, the Minnesota Vikings, and the White Sox. You could always hear from the next room when he was watching one of his teams play on television and you were never in doubt of which team he was rooting for!

Forrest was known for his sense of humor. He even had a stand-up comedy act for several years and was always gathering and writing material for it. Forrest was a champion shopper, always looking for the ultimate bargains when shopping. (His loved ones were all relieved when he stopped the extreme coupon phase) He also enjoyed cooking, starting with one of numerous recipes he gathered from the internet, and branching out to create his own recipes. He began baking something to bring Addy most every weekend, and had just debuted his own smoked brisket recipe on the 4th of July.

Preceded in death by his father William, Forrest is survived by his daughter Addy, mother Virginia, sister Suzie and her husband Harold, niece Courtney, former wife Ginger, former in-laws Paul and Clara Welch, former brother and sister-in-law Johnny Welch and Amanda, nephew Eli, niece Ava, and several bonus nieces and nephews.

Forrest was truly one of a kind and he left us much too soon. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, August 13, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Stillwater. Friends and family are encouraged to wear OSU orange or Viking purple in his honor.

Those wishing to honor Forrest's memory may do so by contributing to Addy's college fund. OK Dream 529 Plan, c/o Addyson G. Welch- Britton.
