It is with great sadness and deep gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Yvonne Hornberger, a lifelong resident of Stillwater, Oklahoma, who passed away on December 10, 2025, at the age of 79. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Yvonne was born on May 24, 1946, to Harold and Betty (Kirby) Holinsworth in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She attended Stillwater High School (formerly C.E. Donart High School) and later worked as an accountant. Yvonne was a devoted Christian and was also a proud member of the Fairlawn Cemetery Board and the Moose Lodge.
Yvonne was, above all else, a devoted mother, grandmother, protector, and the steady driving force behind her family. There truly was not a single person in her family she didn't help in one way or another. Family was her greatest priority, and everything she built personally and professionally was done with the hope that those she loved would be in a better place because of her.
A fiercely independent business owner, Yvonne owned and operated Overhead Door Co., building a reputation grounded in reliability, integrity, and care. In addition to her work as a business owner, she served countless doctors, lawyers, jewelers, and professionals throughout the Stillwater community in various capacities, always willing to step in, lend support, and help where she was needed. She was also deeply committed to the City of Stillwater and dedicated more than 30 years of service to Fairlawn Cemetery. Through her leadership, tireless volunteerism, and careful stewardship, she preserved its history, strengthened its financial stability, and helped shape it into the peaceful and beautiful place it is today. In recognition of her extraordinary service and quiet humility, the City of Stillwater proclaimed April 24, 2014, as "Yvonne Hornberger Day." It was an honor she richly deserved-and one she accepted without ever seeking the spotlight.
Yvonne lived a full and joyful life. In addition to her dedication to work, she loved sewing, dancing, playing the organ and accordion, singing, riding motorcycles, and spending time at the lake with family and friends. She first married Bruce Wheatley, and they divorced in 1982. Yvonne then married Kenneth "Bud" Hornberger in 1985 and remained devoted to him until his passing in 2022.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud; her son, Carey W. Wheatley; her brother, H.E. Holinsworth; and her granddaughter, Tosha Magee.
Yvonne is survived by her son Tim Wheatley and his wife, Jill; her daughters, Tara McWilliams and her husband, Dave, and Tammy Hatfield; her stepson, Randall Hornberger and his wife, Rhonda; and her stepdaughters, Kenna Rice and her husband, David, and Kathy Campbell. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Pam Roberson and Daphne Hoffman and her husband, Lyle as well as many extended family members and friends who loved her and will miss her deeply.
The family requests that those wishing to honor Yvonne's memory consider making a memorial contribution to Walker Companion Services, 941 E. Cherry St., Cushing, OK 74023.
The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Della and Tina at Walker Companion Services for their exceptional care and kindness.
